Rotary's Sweat Equity Project - Malawi, Africa (2010)
| A Team of 14 Rotary volunteers worked three weeks in Malawi, Africa, as part of a Sweat Equity Project. They helped fund and build two school classrooms, fixed and painted teachers’ houses and learned about the challenges that the people of Malawi face, particularly the women and children who are HIV positive. The group visited HIV clinics, homes and other areas of importance.
Their experiences deepened and expanded the relationship with the people in the village of Misangu and Rotary’s partners Dignitas and Emmanuel International.
Nick created a 45-minute documentary on the project and a 20-minute version that is used to fundraise for the two Rotary initiatives. $10.00 of each DVD sold will be donated to this initiative |

Chefs at the Laughing Geese: Ciril Hitz "King Baker" (2007)
| Chefs come to “The Laughing Geese” in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Here they can walk in the garden and get fresh produce, fresh herbs, and eggs from the free-range chickens. Besides being a beautiful area, the Cowichan Valley has a lot to offer, from local cheesemakers, a baker who bakes with Red Fife Wheat, many wineries and fresh mozzarella cheese from a local buffalo farm.
Ciril Hitz was our first (guest chef) baker to visit “The Laughing Geese.” He demonstrated how to bake croissants, gibassier, butter scones, whole wheat bread and a Tyrolean chocolate cake. The DVD will teach you how to create the perfect breakfast for that special person in your life… and a few extra surprises.
Chef Ciril Hitz is a baking/pastry instructor at Johnson & Whales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He has competed in the National Bread and Pastry Team Championship (2004) held in Atlantic City. There his team won 1st place overall and individually Ciril captured the honors of the Best Bread Showpiece, Best Bread Degustation, and Best Viennoiserie Degustation.
He was also the artistic category representative on the 2002 Bread Bakers Guild Team which represented the USA at the Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie in Paris, France and captured the Silver Medal. |
