The Edible School Yard program has been produced to inspire and encourage you to create an edible garden at your school.
This is not a step-by-step course, but an important step to motivate your school. With the students of the Sunrise Waldorf School in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island, and their guide Derek Masselink, we show you the possibilities you have when creating an edible schoolyard.
The video shows what soil is, what it contains, how to work it etc. We talk about composting, and the planting of the first seeds. Seeing things grow will germinate ideas for other projects you can create when harvesting your first produce. Everything is up to you - we like to see children involved in enjoying a fruit and vegetable garden, and most importantly learning and appreciating where food comes from, and how much better organically-grown vegetables taste.
Enjoy this 25-minute program. We do hope that this video will create the first steps to start an edible garden at your own school.
